When you're firing a gun a somebody, the ankle is just about the lowest shot you can pull off...

DAVID F. ASHTON - Officers investigated a shooting in the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood which wounded a teenager in the ankle. Continuing the recent troubling trend of shooting incidents occurring more frequently in Inner Southeast Portland, East Precinct officers were dispatched on a "shooting" call early Monday morning, at 1:18 p.m. on August 21, near a convenience store at S.E. 72nd Avenue and Duke Street.

"Officers found evidence of gunfire; however, at that time no victims were located," reported PPB Public Information Officer Melissa Newhard.

"But at 1:55 a.m., officers responded to an area hospital on reports of 16-year-old walk-in gunshot wound victim," Newhard continued. "At the hospital, the victim confirmed to officers having been shot in the ankle outside of the convenience store.

"The victim didn't know who had shot him, and could not provide any suspect description." The incident is still under investigation.
