If there's a lesson here, it's that you don't mess with Mike's Drive In -- an Inner S.E. tradition, if there ever was one

COURTESY OF KOIN-TV-6 NEWS - The bandits sportscar ended up stuck under the trailer of a semi rig, after it ran a red light at Ochoco Street in Sellwood while the driver was fleeing from an attempted crime at Mikes Drive-In, on Harrison at Highway 224 in the City of Milwaukie. A driver and passenger who reportedly tried to defraud the Milwaukie location of "Mike's Drive-In" on Thursday, September 9th, made a second bad decision that afternoon – one that almost cost them their lives.

Workers at Mike's called 9-1-1 about the incident, which brought Milwaukie Police officers to the "fraud in progress" call at about 2:30 p.m. Although the alleged bandits sped away from the scene of the crime, they were spotted by a Milwaukie officer who attempted a traffic stop.

The driver took off northbound, ran a red traffic light at McLoughlin Boulevard and S.E. Ochoco Street in Sellwood, and the car slammed underneath the trailer of an 18-wheeler semi truck. The Oregon State Police responded.

"Both people suffered significant traumatic injuries, and were transported to a hospital; then, one was transferred to a trauma center," reported Oregon State Police Lieutenant Patrick Huskey. "Impairment is suspected," he told reporters. As THE BEE went to press the condition, charges against, and names of the two suspects had not yet been made available to us. But it's clear that both of them are lucky to have survived the spectacular crash, which tied up traffic for a while on McLoughlin Boulevard.
