June was not a good month for attentive driving in Inner Southeast Portland; at least 3 pedestrians were hit

DAVID F. ASHTON - A Central Precinct Traffic Crash Unit motorcycle officer interviews a witness who saw the pedestrian struck by a car on S.E. Milwaukie Avenue at Glenwood, in Westmoreland. Numerous witnesses saw a pedestrian struck by a white Toyota Corolla LE on the sunny Thursday afternoon of June 2 in the Westmoreland business district, in or near the crosswalk across S.E. Milwaukie Avenue at Glenwood Street.

Central Precinct officers, as well as Westmoreland Fire Station 20's Engine Company, were dispatched there at 2:46 p.m. that afternoon.

During the brief investigation, Milwaukie Avenue was shut down to vehicle traffic.

An officer in the area mentioned that the struck pedestrian had been immediately taken to a local hospital, and the driver had stayed at the scene.

The current condition of the collision victim has not been disclosed. Portland police spokesperson Lt. Nathan Sheppard told THE BEE, "The only additional information on the case is that the driver was cited for Careless Driving."
