Dozing driver hits, injures, pedestrian in Sellwood
Traffic came to stop on Sunday afternoon, June 5, after an accident along S.E. Tacoma Street near 9th Avenue.
Central Precinct investigators arriving at 4:22 p.m. found two smashed cars, and an injured pedestrian.
A PPB Officer in Sellwood told THE BEE that he, himself, had been driving in the flow of traffic, eastbound along Tacoma Street — and, near 9th Avenue, a car in front of him had drifted out of the lane, struck a female pedestrian, and then crashed into the back of a parked white Toyota at the curb.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment; her condition has not been reported due to privacy laws, but apparently the incident occurred at low speed.
"The woman driving the vehicle said she 'must have dozed off' for a moment," the officer reported. Apparently, her car wasn't badly damaged; and after exchanging information, she was released by the officers and she was allowed to depart.
