Suspect sees police coming and rams cruiser; is shot
On Monday, May 14th, at 1:50 p.m., Multnomah Ccounty Sheriff's Office "Special Investigations Unit" Deputies were searching for a wanted subject in the area of S.E. 100th Avenue and Washington Street in Portland just north of Mall 205. Deputies observed the suspect parked in the Burger King parking lot. When the man realized he'd been spotted by the approaching deputy, he placed his vehicle in reverse and rammed the deputy's vehicle.
A deputy fired his gun, striking the suspect -- who was then taken into custody and provided immediate medical attention.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to a local area hospital, reportedly with critical injuries. Responding Portland Police officers arrived and secured the scene. No deputies or community members were injured in the shooting.
The area of the Burger King remained shut down for the duration of the on-scene investigation.
The involved deputy and witness deputies were placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard procedure in such cases.
