It was obvious that annual plant sales, to succeed this year, had to move online; the Rhody Gardens did so

RITA A. LEONARD - Although you cannot get in to see them at present, the rhododendrons at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden are blooming in bright colors. Because of the social distancing restrictions associated with the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, the annual Mother's Day Sale of the Portland Rhododendron Society – usually held in person at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden – was canceled this year, and converted into an online sale, and it's not too late for customers to buy. The website to visit is – www.crystalspringsgardenpdx.org – and that's where the most popular colored shrubs are posted for sale, in a pictorial array of over 250.

As this issue of THE BEE went to press, Event Coordinator Rachael Moloney said that the sale would most likely continue until the stock is sold out – but, be aware that sale photos labeled "sold out" are of plants no longer available for purchase. "We do not offer delivery service at this time," she explained, "But after you choose which plants you want, please select a day and time when you would like to pick them up here at the Garden. We are available Tuesday through Thursday, and on Sundays, from noon until 3 p.m."

The striking photos on the website are courtesy of the American Rhododendron Society, and were taken by Harold Greer and Larry Kirby, unless otherwise noted. All proceeds from the sale are to benefit the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, on S.E. 28th a short distance north of Woodstock Boulevard, on the west side of Reed College.
