New in Westmoreland -- a business attempting to mix dogs and wines, without actually serving wines to dogs

RITA A. LEONARD - Jenn Lyons, owner of Westmorelands new Cellar Dog Wines, here seen in her showroom with a gift basket. Jenn Lyons, proprietor of Cellar Dog Wines, has opened a business that supports her two favorite passions: Dogs and wines. "Having a wine store and tasting room that caters to dogs and their people has been a dream of mine for a while," she confides. "I'm honored to create a gathering place where I hope all will be comfortable. This is Sellwood-Moreland's only dog-friendly wine store and tasting room." You'll find there a variety of white, rosé, red, and sparkling wines, and beer from Leikam Brewing.

The store's dog-friendly policy, Jenn cautions, is limited to spayed and neutered dogs only; and they must be kept on-leash. The rules include, "Respect boundaries of all canine and human patrons at all times, and quickly clean up after accidents. Only socialize with permission, and if an escalation seems imminent, discontinue socializing immediately." Ms. Lyons says that charitable giving is included in the proceeds of all sales, including gift baskets. Cellar Dog Wines, through this policy, supports an astonishing variety of charitable organizations – including human rights, dog rescue, ocean preservation, bee colony populations, health care for wine workers, gender equality, criminal justice reform, protecting public lands (Oregon Wild), LGBTQ issues, Child Rescue, "iAct" (empowering victims of mass atrocities), Habitat for Humanity, and even more. The new shop opened at "Claybourne Commons", 1620 S.E. Claybourne Street, #106-A, the former location of "Perican Bing". The 900-square-foot space provides limited indoor and outdoor seating, and is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 2:30 until 8:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 2 to 8:30 p.m.
