The nonprofit, neighborhood-run Community Center tried a new idea -- a wellness fest -- and it worked

DAVID F. ASHTON - Neighbors browsed among the health care providers displays at the Sellwood Community Houses Less-Stress Wellness Fest on Saturday, May 22. The outdoor pavilion and sidewalk areas at the nonprofit and community-operated Sellwood Community House, at S.E. 15th Avenue and Spokane Street, were the locations of their first-ever, four-hour "Less-Stress Wellness Fest" on May 22nd.

"We're hosting this, to bring people together and be a community connector," explained Director of Community Relations Erin Fryer. "In this case, we're doing so with wellness health providers, who are focused on promoting relaxation, and less-stressful living, during these times.

"The idea for this came from 'Form Health', a local naturopathic clinic," Fryer told THE BEE. "In addition to the participating local businesses here, we also have 'Music Together' entertaining."

Did it work? Well, it seemed to us that those who attended did become calmer, as they learned about wellness options and were able to unwind a bit, during the four hour fair on Saturday afternoon. If you missed attending, here's a quick BEE video look at the Wellness Fair!
