'Mathnasium' tutoring resource opens in Westmoreland
A new mathematics tutoring resource called "Mathnasium" recently opened in Westmoreland at 6336 S.E. Milwaukie Avenue. The company has been active in Southeast Portland for ten years already, helping math make sense to kids through year-round math programs. Professional mathematics instructors there say they "put fun back in learning", and also give tips confronting "test anxiety" and parent/teacher conferences.
They say they will teach children math so that they understand it, master it, and love it – through mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written teaching methods that they adapt to any learning style. The tutors provide personalized, face-to-face instruction, and assure that they foster independent learning and problem-solving skills.
The owner and Executive Director of several local Mathnasium branches in Southeast Portland, Bruce Withycombe, tells THE BEE, "We help kids in grades K through 12 understand math, by teaching it in a way that makes sense to them. The 'Mathnasium MethodTM' has been helping students in both the United States and Canada."The current Director at the Westmoreland site is Veronika Eisele, who reveals, "Here, we currently employ two instructors, with one more on standby. These instructors continually check student progress along the way, making sure kids truly understand and retain what they've learned. The results are transformative – kids will experience measurable changes in attitude, confidence, and school progress, allowing them to overcome homework frustration."
