If your dog is unruly, and you need help truly, now let it be said, here's how to put 'em to bed. (Burma Shave)

RITA A. LEONARD - Co-owner Meaghan Summerbell stands at the entrance of her successful two-year-old dog training business in Brooklyn, Urban Pawsibilities.A busy puppy and dog training business called "Urban Pawsibilities" is has been building clientele in the Brooklyn neighborhood for nearly two years – at 3737 S.E. 21st Avenue – and now serves some two hundred dog owners a month.

There are day trainings or 'day stays', private trainings, and group training classes available. They also offer a "study hall" on Friday mornings from 6:30-8:30 a.m., in which owners can bring their dogs for personal training.

Group training classes are named for their purposes: Puppy dog, green dog, calm dog, come dog, triggered dog, good dog, and tricky dog. The company motto is: "Learn Together, Live Together."

The business is owned and operated by Meaghan Summerbell CPDT-KA, KPA CTP, FFCT, and Emma Brent CPDT-KA, FFCT; they are assisted by three other employees. The facility was formerly an art glass gallery.

Meaghan Summerbell is an all-around "dog guru", and feels she has been prepping for a life in the animal training industry since birth. With a background in daycare, boarding, and training, she has worked with thousands of dogs of all breeds and mixes over the past seven years. She explains, "We help you develop a better dialogue with your dog. To change our dog's behavior, we ultimately must change our own in a calm and collected way while learning how to read our dog's body language."

Summerbell is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, a Karen Pryon Academy Clicker Training Partner, a Certified Trick Dog instructor, a CGQ evaluator, and a Fear-Free Certified Trainer. She's working towards becoming a certified canine behavior consultant and certified separation anxiety trainer (CSAT). She finds working with fearful dogs especially rewarding. Her training experience also extends to cats, horses, goats, and other animals.

Brent is also a certified Professional Dog Trainer and a Fear Free Certified Trainer. Referring to Brent's one-on-one coaching, dog owner Laura La Rosa remarked to THE BEE: "We wholeheartedly recommend her. Emma helped my strong-willed bull terrier become less fear- aggressive. She is very skilled at understanding his nuances, and has developed a training plan that meets our needs. We love her open heart, optimism, and 'pawsitive' reinforcement."

Urban Pawsibilities is open Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., with Saturdays and Sundays set aside for scheduled classes only. Telephone the business at 503/235-8098; and, for more information and a list of available classes, go online – www.urbanpawsibilities.com
