JULY 4

Moose Lodge July 4 Block Party: From 2 to 6 p.m., the Brentwood-Darlington's Portland Moose Lodge #291 is providing live music, a barbecue, art, games, and other entertainment for the neighborhood. It's all FREE! Located at the corner of S.E. 52nd Avenue and Flavel Street — specifically, at 7474 S.E. 52nd Avenue.

Oaks Park Fourth of July: July 4 is a special event, 12 noon until 12 midnight, and admission of $36 per person is required to enter the park. Admission includes rides and the big fireworks show. Ticket quantities are limited, and tickets must be purchased online in advance. Visit — www.oakspark/specials — for tickets and more about the 4th of July event. Oaks Park Road turns north at the foot of S.E. Spokane Street in Sellwood, just west of the railroad tracks. JULY 9 "Historic Sellwood" walking tour today: Neighborhood historian and BEE writer Eileen Fitzsimons will be leading two walking tours of Sellwood this summer. Part I, the early history of Sellwood, takes place today, 10 a.m. — noon. (The second is July 23.) Eileen will share information about the history of the neighborhood as reflected in its street patterns, transportation development, and buildings. Author event at Sellwood Community House: Local author Liz Prato in person, with her new book: "Kids in America: A Gen X Reckoning" — joined by Corkscrew Winebar. It's hosted by Moth Radio storyteller Sarah Bunger, 6-8 p.m. in the outdoor pavilion this evening, on S.E. Spokane at 15th. JULY 16

SMILE Summer Music concert: This evening at 6:30 p.m., it's live music by Michelle Alany & The Mystics (fiddle-driven Sephardic, Balkan & original music) — free, at S.E. Bidwell & 13th Avenue in Sellwood. JULY 23 "Historic Sellwood" walking tour today: Neighborhood historian and BEE writer Eileen Fitzsimons will be leading her second walking tour of Sellwood this summer today. This one covers the 20th-Century development of Sellwood, and takes place 10 a.m. to noon today. Eileen will share information about the history of the neighborhood as reflected in its street patterns, transportation development, and buildings. JULY 28

"Last Thursday" celebration at Community House: The Sellwood Community House kicks off the extended "Summerville" celebration for Westmoreland and Sellwood with "Support Ukraine Thursday Market", 5-8 p.m., at S.E. 15th and Spokane in Sellwood. —featuring Ukrainian musician Darka Dusty, food, drinks, vendors, and activities for the whole family.

JULY 29

Summer "Free For All" PP&R concert: This evening at 6:30 p.m. in upper Sellwood Park, Jenny Don't and the Spurs perform a style described as "rocking cowpunk". Free and open to all.

JULY 30

"Summerville Saturday" in Sellwood-Westmoreland: And the planned activities -- Community "Open Mic" music performances from noon until 3 p.m. at S.E. Bidwell & 13th Avenue, followed by "PDX Art Crawl", 6-9 p.m. -- have been postponed to a later date to be determined -- due to the extreme heat forecast for today. However the concert below, and Sundae in the Park tomorrow, are still scheduled!

SMILE Summer Music concert: This evening at 6:30 p.m., it's a live performance by Sellwood Jazz, performing jazz and pop standards at S.E. Bidwell & 13th Avenue. Free and open to all.

JULY 31

Fun and music for all in Sellwood Park: Styled in tribute to Sundae in the Park, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in upper Sellwood Park, a community family afternoon features live music for kids and adults, and a "family-friendly drag performance featuring Bolivia Carmichael". Stay all day for treats and activities for kids of all ages.

AUGUST 6 Golf fundraiser for Cleveland High School today: This year, the annual fund raising CHS Alumni golf tournament, presented by the CHS Alumni Golf Committee, will be held today, at the Eastmoreland Golf Course. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m., continuing until all golfers are scheduled (no SHOTGUN start). Cart, range balls, lunch, prizes, and more will make this day a special one — to thank you for helping Cleveland High School students. A huge Warriors thank you goes out to "PDX Sliders" for sponsoring the tournament again.
