Sidewalks and Bike Lanes
There will be an open house at Jackson Middle School from 5:30 - 7:30 pm to
introduce SW residents to the Southwest In Motion (SWIM) plan. Basically, it's
a plan to promote projects that make life easier for pedestrians and bicyclists
trying to travel safely. A promotional piece says, "PBOT is interested in hearing
from the public about what the next major project in Southwest Portland should be.

Welcome to Dairyville
Since 1961 Alpenrose Dairy has been welcoming visitors from all over to Christmas
in Dairyville. Storybook Lane is the centerpiece. Trains, 300 trees, live animals and
Christmas-themed movies in the Opera House will be featured. Admission is free
but donations of new unwrapped toys and cans of food would be greatly appreciated.

The Ships! The Ships!
The holidays wouldn't be the holidays without at least one trip to the shores of the
Willamette River to watch the Christmas Ships go by. There are plenty of fine viewing
spots in SW Portland. Check the schedule to make sure the ships are out. christmasships.org

Festival of Light
The Annual Chanuka Menorah Lighting takes place at Directors Park and launches the
Festival of Light for the next seven days. Chabad of Oregon, headquartered in SW Portland, has
been hosting the Chanuka Menora Lighting for 35 years. The Menorah will be lit on the first night
of Chanukah and then every evening from 4pm to 6pm for a week. Music, traditional foods and children's
crafts will be featured. Directors Park is located at 815 SW Park Avenue just west of the Fox Tower.
FRIDAY DEC. 7 - SATURDAY DEC. 8
Local Tree Lighting
Christmas really comes to Multnomah Village with the annual tree lighting ceremony at the
intersection of Capitol Highway and SW 35th. The tree will be illuminated at 6:42PM Friday evening.
Prior to that there will be a wreath sale and food drive in front of Neighborhood House. Live
music can be heard and Santa will show up at 5PM. Horse drawn carriage rides will be available from
5:30PM to 8:30PM. On Saturday Lucky Lab is hosting Breakfast with Santa from 8AM to 11AM
That afternoon there will be ginger bread house decorating at Riversgate Church. The Multnomah Village

THROUGH DEC. 4
Artwork by Multnomah Arts Center adult and youth visual arts instructors will be on view in the
Multnomah Arts Center Gallery. The work will include paintings, prints, drawings, metal arts,
ceramics, textiles, woodturning, sculpture, photography and more. The show may be seen
through December 4.
