Clarifies fate of Gabriel Park leaf depot back in 2010 when Sam Adams was in charge of PBOT

I picked up the Southwest Community Connection while doing my weekly shopping visit at Barbur World Foods and was dismayed to read in your front-page article titled "Gabriel Park leaf depot won't reopen" that "it was shut down by Amanda Fritz, the commissioner in charge of the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT)."

As a 32-year resident of Southwest Portland, I know my neighbors and I relied on the Gabriel Park leaf deposit site — even with the challenge of having to gather and transport leaves ourselves instead of receiving City leaf-sweeping services like inner eastside neighborhoods. I did not shut it down. I want my neighbors to know that I believe all Portlanders deserve basic services.

The commissioner in charge of PBOT in 2010 was Mayor Sam Adams. Commissioner Chloe Eudaly is now in charge of PBOT, and requests to restore the leaf depot at Gabriel Park should be sent to her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
