SW Portland crash victim identified
UPDATED 6 p.m. THURSDAY - The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim who was struck in the fatal hit and run crash on March 19th as 85 year-old Ortrud F. Vatheuer, a Portland resident. Her family has been notified.
Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division investigators are still seeking information about the identity of the involved driver and suspect vehicle involved in the incident. Anyone with tips, can contact the Traffic Division at (503) 823-2103.
Vatheuer was struck and killed just before seven a.m. Monday morning, March 19th. Police are looking for an old model, red or burgundy van that drove away from the collision.
There's a makeshift memorial of bunches of flowers under a small cherry blossom tree at the intersection of Southwest Carson Street and 45th Avenue. The stretch of Southwest 45th near where the fatal crash occurred actually has a stretch of paved sidewalk. It's one of the very few stretches of sidewalk before you get to Gabriel Park, a mile to the north of the crash scene. The van escaped by driving north on 45th.
Police are still actively investigating the hit-and-run crash and are expected to relase more details of what happened soon.
