Commissioner Nick Fish, Saint Barnabas's Seventieth, Live bluegrass music at Hillsdale Library

Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish will speak to the Multnomah Neighborhood Associaiton on June 11.Tuesday, June 11, 7 p.m. Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish speaks to Multnomah Neighborhood Association. Fish has been elected four times to the City Council, most recently in 2018. As commissioner in charge of the Parks and Recreation Bureau he's expected to face questions about the future of the Multnomah Arts Center. Fish is also commissioner in charge of the Bureau of Environmental Service which is playing a major role in the upcoming project to improve stormwater facilities and sewage systems along Capitol Highway from Multnomah Village to the Crossroads at Barbur Boulevard. Wednesday, June 12, 7 p.m. Annie Bloom's Books presents poetry and music at Gastromania Vault. Annie Bloom's welcomes back Portland author Liz Prato to read from her new book, "Volcanoes, Palm Trees & Privilege: Essays on Hawai'i." Prato will be joined in-conversation with Hawai'i-born musician Jim Jones. The event will take place next door to Annie Bloom's at Gastromania, with food and drink available. {img:244400S}aturday, June 15, 2 p.m. Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church celebrates its 70th anniversary. In 1949, the first St. Barnabas church service was held in a private home. Only the family that lived there attended. Within a year, 35 families were worshipping together at the Legion Hall in Multnomah Village. In 1955, St. Barnabas parish bought two acres west of Hillsdale and north of Multnomah Village at 2201 S.W. Vermont St. and built a church and parish hall. DONATED PHOTO: SAINT BARNABAS - In March of 1972 then-State Senator Vic Atiyeh announced that the mortgage on Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church had been paid off. Seated behind Atiyeh on the altar is Bishop Gross. Atiyeh was preparing to run for Oregon Governor against Democrat Bob Straub in 1974, an election which he lost.
A number of events are scheduled to commemorate the 70th anniversary beginning with a celebration of Holy Eucharist including special music and scripture readings. The service will be followed by a special reception with memorabilia and historical items. The parish extends a special invitation to the members of St. Bartholomew and St. James parishes. The dress will be casual.

SATURDAY, JUNE 15, 9 a.m. – SW TRAILS HERITAGE TREES STROLL AND COFFEE WALK FROM WILSON HIGH SCHOOL. This Sunday stroll will take hikers down the SW 25th right of way and up through Hillsdale City Park. We will then walk down SW Boundary, take a short jog on SW Dosch, and then take SW Dosch Park to view the heritage trees. We will complete our circle walking down SW Campbell, Sunset and 19th. www.swtrails.org

Sunday, June 16, 2 p.m. Bluegrass Journey With Bigfoot Mojo at the Hillsdale Library. Live band Bigfoot Mojo performs samples of the genres which influenced bluegrass music including Celtic, old time, blues, gospel and country. They then tie it all together with a culmination of songs by Bill Monroe, Flat and Scruggs, Doc Watson, and the Stanley Brothers. Free. First come, first served.
