Multnomah County and Portland officials respond as temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees on Friday.

COURTESY KOIN 6 NEWS - A heat advisory has been issued for Thursday through Saturday.With the temperature expected to exceed 100 degrees on Friday, July 30, cooling centers are opened and library hours in the metropolitan area were announced on Thursday.

Multnomah County and Portland officials also promised better communications with the public to prevent heat-related deaths, like those that occurred during the late June heat wave.

Cooling and community centers will be open from noon to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday, at:

• The Portland Building, 1120 S.W. Fifth St., Portland.

• The Matt Dishman Community Center, 77 N.E. Knott St., Portland.

• The Charles Jordan Community Center, 9009 N. Foss Ave., Portland.

• Multnomah County East Building, 600 N.E. Eighth St. Gresham.

• Sunrise Center, 18901 E. Burnside St, Portland.

Multnomah County libraries are open during the following hours at the following locations:

• Capitol Hill, 10723 S.W. Capitol Highway, Portland, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Fairview-Columbia, 1520 N.E. Village St. Fairview, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Gregory Heights, 7921 N.E. Sandy Blvd., Portland, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Gresham, 385 N.W. Miller Ave., Gresham, Thursday noon to 8 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The City of Portland also is opening outdoor misting centers at:

• Glenhaven Park, N.E. 82nd Ave. and Siskiyou St., Portland.

• Mount Scott Park, S.E. 72nd Ave. and Harold St., Portland.

• Knott Park, N.E. 117th Ave. and Knott St., Portland

To limit the spread of COVID-19 and its variants, all guests and staff will be required to wear masks throughout their stay regardless of their vaccination status.
