A southbound detour of Southwest Capitol Highway began Wednesday, Aug. 18 and could remain in effect until November 2022.
The Portland Bureau of Transportation advised that work on the Southwest Capitol Highway: Multnomah Village to West Portland project will continue in the area, leading to a traffic detour at Capitol Highway and Southwest Garden Home Road.
"When complete, SW Capitol Highway between SW Garden Home and Taylors Ferry roads will be a transformed street with new sidewalks, protected bike lanes, pavement, stormwater management, and a new water main," PBOT announced in mid-August.
Only northbound traffic will be allowed on Capitol Highway between Southwest Taylors Ferry Road and Garden Home Road, PBOT noted. Southbound traffic coming over the bridge from Multnomah Village will be diverted west on Southwest Garden Home Road, south on Southwest 45th and 48th Avenue and east on Southwest Taylors Ferry Road back to Capitol Highway. Pedestrians will still be able to use both directions of Southwest Capitol Highway, but may encounter temporary delays or rerouting.
The project is funded by the city's Fixing Our Streets initiative.
