New name for city park in Southwest Portland should consider full history of the region, not just settlers

FILE PHOTO - The temporary signage at Southwest Portland's 'A Park,' which was formerly known as Custer Park. The park has yet to be renamed by the city. I loved learning more about the history of A Park (formerly Custer) from Carlisle Harrison. I am grateful to the Raz family for donating the land. I live near Raz-Baack Crossing, and once worked with a member of the Raz family.

However, as someone who visits this park frequently, I am hoping that we can stretch back farther than the Swiss settlers. After all, they were not the original inhabitants in this area.

A geographic name such as a simple "Capitol Hill Park" would suffice, but ideally we can create educational signage that explains both about the relevant native people as well as histories of migration such as the Swiss dairy farmers.
