Suspect arrested and charged with drunk driving after he called 911 from the scene

A pedestrian on Babur Boulevard was hit around midnight Tuesday by a car driven by a man who was later arrested for driving under the influence.

The victim has not been identified.

Ivan Cam, 30, called the police from the scene of the crash between the two bridges on Barbur Blvd. in the section called The Woods.

Cam told the police officers who responded from Central Precinct that he thought the pedestrian he hit was dead. He stayed at the location and cooperated with the investigation before was arrested and booked into Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Reckless Driving, and Manslaughter II.

Barbur Boulevard had to be shut down while the Major Crash Team investigated the fatal crash.

Portland Police will identify the victim once next of kin has been contacted.
