However, the restaurant recently announced it will shut down for good.An iconic Tualatin restaurant has announced it will soon shut down for good.

On May 11, the Village Inn restaurant at 17070 S.W. 72nd Ave., posted the following on its Facebook page: "Dear friends, after three generations of family ownership and operation, we are closing our doors for the last time. Although this loss fills us with much sadness, we are also overwhelmed with gratitude for all the years we have shared together."

The restaurant had been a destination in the area since opening in 1968, originally at a site southwest of the current location. In 2004, the restaurant was forced to move from its original site to make way for construction of Bridgeport Village.

"We closed one day at the old location and opened the next day at the new location," Ryan Sweeney, who co-owns the business with his mother Connie Watt, told Tigard Life newspaper in June 2018. "In the last year at our old facility, sales dropped, and after we opened at the new one … our sales doubled… This area is a magnet for people from all over."

More recently, the business was threatened with yet another relocation after TriMet and Metro announced plans to demolish the Village Inn building to make way for its proposed Southwest Corridor Light Rail Project. However, after lengthy discussions, it was announced that the restaurant would be spared. (Current plans call for the end of that light rail project to end across the street from the restaurant where a transit center is being planned.)

Linda Moholt, executive director of the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce, said Village Inn was one of the charter members of the chamber and would have celebrated 43 years in business on June 17.

"Connie and her son Ryan have been working together since he was 15 years old," Moholt wrote in an email. "They have provided so much more than great food … their friendly staff and community spirit will be greatly missed."
