It's the end of August, now, and fall is nearing so it gives me time to for a little introspection.
The Cornelius Pass Road closure has complicated all our lives. We pick up materials in the Hillsboro area and we've had to change our driving patterns to try to avoid the bottleneck.
We have picked up more business in Rainier over the last four months when Washington ended the sales tax exemption for Oregon shoppers. We want to reiterate to Rainier residents that you can call us with an order, and we can deliver anything in the Rainier area within 24 hours.
I was thinking back to the days when Dad was down on the river in St. Helens. We used to sell feed to the big dairies in Woodland, Washington and the dairymen would come over on a boat and take one or two ton of feed and go back across the river. Back then, the roads weren't as good and the bridge complicated things. Plus, the dairymen wouldn't have to pay sales tax.
