October is a special month for us at Dahlgren's Do-It-Best. One of the more exciting times was October 12, 1962 when the Columbus Day Storm hit. I was all of 9 years old and Dad was back on the highway in the old building and warehouse. At the time, Dad sold lots of roofing and we had a great supply of 60 squares of roofing and for a small yard like us, that's quite a bit. When October 13 came around, everybody's roofs were off, and Dad opened the store. I was pressed into duty at 9 years old; I sat in the warehouse and made sure people got the right color and the right number of bundles of roofing squares. Dad sold out in a couple hours, so he had to go into town to get more so mom came down and we ran the store together. What a day! Trees were everywhere and we had such big winds, though there was no rain.
Today the leaves are dropping and so is some of our pricing because we picked up some good buys. People are buying propane and wood pellets; Propane is still only $1.99 a gallon. We have assorted heaters, so you don't need to go cold.
Feed and farm merchandise are a consideration right now, and even fencing to keep your animals fed and safe.
Come into Dahlgren's Do-It-Best today and let's get you ready for winter.
