A 7-year-old girl was found inside the house as well, but wasn't hurt; manhunt for suspect ensued Tuesday night

St. Helens police officers were continuing their search Wednesday, July 3, for a man accused of shooting and injuring two people inside a house late the prior evening.

St. Helens Police Chief Brian Greenway told KOIN 6 News the shooting happened at a home along Old Portland Road. Neighbors called 911 and reported hearing sounds of gunshots around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.

The suspect was still at large on Wednesday, and law enforcement said an investigation was ongoing.

When police arrived on scene Tuesday night, they found one man suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken to a Portland hospital, but has since been released.

The other victim was found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body, according to Greenway. He was airlifted to a hospital and was reported to be in surgery Tuesday.

Both victims are expected to survive, according to police.

A 7-year-old girl was also inside the house, but wasn't injured.

Greenway said it was an isolated incident and added that the victims and shooter know each other.

While police don't think there's a threat to the public, they're working with several agencies to find the suspect due to the severity of the crime.

The suspected shooter is described as a white man, middle-aged with a hefty build. He was seen driving an older white-colored four-door sedan. Police said he used a handgun in the shooting.

As authorities continued to investigate, the neighborhood was blocked off between 9th Street and 6th Street along Old Portland Way. Roads were expected to reopen Wednesday morning, July 3.

On Wednesday, July 3, a post on the St. Helens Police Department's Facebook page reiterated that the shooting was an isolated incident and that there was "no immediate threat to the public at this time."

The post indicated additional information would be released as it becomes available.
