Rip City 3-on-3 sign-ups open until July 14
The sixth annual Rip City 3-on-3 basketball tournament is Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, at the Rose Quarter.
Promoted as Portland's Premier Outdoor 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, it is open to male and female players ages 5 and up.
Competition will take place in various divisions: the Lay-Ups, for ages 5-7 on an 8-foot basket; Junior Youth, ages 8-9; Senior Youth, 10-12; Teen, 13-19; Adult, 20-39; Adult, 40 and older; men's and women's Elite, 18 and up; Wheelchair; and Special Olympics.
The youth, teen and adult divisions will be organized into pools and brackets based on skill, size, playing experience and gender. Mixed-gender teams may be grouped into coed brackets if enough teams sign up.
Teams of three or four players will have at least three pool play games, with some teams advancing to single-elimination playoff brackets.
Players may participate in related competitions — the 3-Point Shootout, the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, the Toyota Youth Skills Challenge, and the Nike Youth Basketball Clinic.
This year's event will have additional food trucks, new vendors and more qualification slots for those interested in the 3-Point Shootout and Youth Skills Challenge.
Blazers coaches, players and alumni have attended and are expected to do so this summer.
Cost is $128 to $200. The Wheelchair and Special Olympics divisions are free.
Registration deadline is July 14.
