Proposed ballot measure would ban transport of fossil fuels

Organizers behind a proposed sustainable energy future ordinance say it is currently under review by the county for petition circulation approval. If approved, enough signatures need to be collected for the ordinance to be placed on an election ballot.

The Columbia County Right to Sustainable Future Ordinance, as it is titled, would prohibit fossil fuels from being transported in the county and would also prevent new energy facilities from being built.

The group expects to find out whether it's permitted to start gathering signatures for the petition by early next week.
