Scappoose teen struck by driver near middle school
UPDATE: A 15-year-old teen girl was struck by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 7, on EM Watts Road in Scappoose, after the driver of the vehicle didn't see the teen in the crosswalk.
The Scappoose Police Department was called to the scene at 3:41 p.m. according to Chief Norm Miller. Scappoose Fire District personnel were dispatched at 3:43 p.m.
EM Watts was temporarily closed at the time of the incident while emergency crews responded.
The 15-year-old girl was walking in a marked crosswalk on the south side of the Scappoose Middle School Thursday afternoon when the driver of a 2011 Toyota Rav traveling eastbound on EM Watts Road and did not see the teen, Miller said.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Deborah Johnson, 66, and was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
The teen suffered minor injuries, but was transported to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, to be checked out, Miller stated. He described the injuries as mostly bumps and bruises.
