Holidays come alive at Watts House
Holiday traditions will return this year to the Watts House Pioneer Museum in Scappoose, with lights, decorations and visits from Santa Claus.
The annual Christmas Lighting ceremony will take place Monday evening, Nov. 27, outside the Watts House in Heritage Park.
Each year, festive holiday lights adorn Heritage Park, dotting parts of Highway 30 and surrounding the park and the Watts House. The lights will kick on around 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, the first Monday after Thanksgiving.
While Christmas carols are sung, typically by local school children, hot chocolate, cookies and cider will be served under the Watts House carport.
Around 6:30 p.m. that evening, Santa Claus will visit the Watts House. Children are invited to visit with Santa and share their Christmas wishes inside the Watts House on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Christmas Lighting event is hosted by the Scappoose Community Club and the Scappoose Historical Society.
Holiday tours of the Watts House are available throughout December, from 5-8:30 p.m. starting Dec. 1 and occuring Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Tours provide a glimpse of the seasonal decorations throughout the Victorian home, including the museum's signature artist-designed and themed Christmas trees.
Wine Tasting at the Watts House
Come sip wine in one of Columbia County's most festive locations Saturday, Dec. 9. The Watts House will host an open house wine tasting offering a five-flight tasting of selections from Mt. St. Helens Cellars, along with food and desserts. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance or at the door the day of the event.
Visit with Santa
Children can take part in a special visit with Santa Claus Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16, at 1 and 3 p.m. Reservations are required.
Call ahead to make a reservation for one of the time slots, as space is limited to only 12 children at a time.
