Scappoose city councilor Rich Riffle to resign
Scappoose City Councilor Rich Riffle announced he will resign from the council at the end of the year.
Riffle made the announcement Monday evening, Dec. 4, during a Scappoose City Council meeting.
Riffle was appointed to the council in 2014 to fill a seat previously held by Donna Gedlich. His term is set to expire in 2018.
Riffle said he is moving to Idaho.
Councilors thanked him for his service to the city and time on the council.
"We're gonna miss you," councilors told Riffle to-
ward the end of Monday's meeting.
Monday was Riffle's last council meeting. A Dec. 18 meeting has been canceled and the council isn't scheduled to meet again until January.
Current city councilors will likely appoint someone to serve out the remainder of Riffle's term, in accordance with the city's charter.
Riffle's seat is expected to be declared vacant in January, with applications accepted afterward. No date has been set yet for an appointment and the city has yet to announce the vacancy or solicit applicants.
Riffle's resignation marks the second on the council this year.
In February, Councilor Barbara Hayden, who served on the council from 2012-17 resigned, announcing she planned to move out of the city, but remain in Oregon.
The council is made up of seven members who each serve a four-year term.
