Seven dogs and 10 cats rescued from a Clatskanie residence following search warrant

SHERIFF'S OFFICE PHOTO - Seven dogs and 10 cats rescued from a Clatskanie residence following search warrant. On Wednesday, March 7, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office along with Officers from the Oregon Humane Society served a search warrant on Clatskanie District Road in Clatskanie. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of seven dogs and 10 cats, according to a Friday, March 9, press release.

Dog Control Officer Roger Kadell had contacted OHS after reviewing a video showing the living conditions of the animals, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. OHS agreed to come out and assist with the forensic exams of the animals and were on scene after the search warrant was served.

OHS will transport the animals to their offices in Portland where health exams will be conducted. This is an ongoing investigation and criminal charges will be determined pending the outcome of the health examinations of the animals, the release stated.

"This cooperation between the Oregon Humane Society and the Sheriff's Office to protect these animals is part of our ongoing effort to improve the way animal control services are rendered in our County," noted Sheriff Jeff Dickerson. "This year has started off well with improved local shelter services from our office on County-seized dogs and an improved partnership with Oregon Humane to insure that strays and other distressed animals in the County get the care and attention they deserve."

"The evidence strongly indicated that these dogs and cats could be suffering from neglect," stated Linda Fielder, OHS director of shelter medicine and humane investigations in a separate OHS statement on the rescue. "We appreciate Columbia County Sheriff's Office reaching out to us to partner on this case."
