In recognition of the club's 80th anniversary, members raised funds to donate a bench with a commemorative plaque. The bench was officially donated during a dedication ceremony last Sunday, April 22.

The plaque on the new bench notes the club's history and honors the garden club's "tireless volunteers dedicated to enhancing the city's public spaces."

In addition to the donated bench, garden club president, Judy Thompson, handed out native wildflower seeds in honor of Earth Day.

"Part of our mission this year is to plant flowers for pollinators," Thompson noted.

Scappoose City Manager Michael Sykes and Mayor Scott Burge joined garden club members for the dedication ceremony.

Throughout Oregon, garden clubs embark on beautification projects in their respective communities and install gardens, often in public or quasi-public spaces.
