Donation provides books for all
Kindergarten students in the St. Helens School District received a free picture book thanks to an annual donation program sponsored by the St. Helens Kiwanis Club. On Friday, May 18, Bill and Claudia Eagle, both Kiwanis members, visited Columbia City Elementary School to pass out the first round of books to students, and offered several educational materials and books to teachers. The students were able to select the book they wanted from a wide array laid out on a table. If two students wanted the same book, they would settle the disagreement by talking with each other, or in some situations playing the hand game, rock-paper-scissors. This year, Kiwanis was able to donate around 200 books to service each kindergarten student in the school district.
