Two incidents reported near Rainer on Aug. 21 and Aug. 23; CRFR responded to both

Columbia River Fire and Rescue crews responded to two incidents this week along Highway 30 near Rainier involving vehicle fires.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21, CRFR crews responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a semi truck and passenger vehicle on Highway 30 near Jack Falls Road in Rainier. The crash was reported just after 8 a.m. and the highway was closed temporarily in both directions. CRFR reported that the semi truck was on fire at the time of the crash, but firefighters were able to control the blaze. One person involved in the crash was transported to an area hospital.

On Thursday morning around 10:30 a.m., CRFR responded to a crash on Highway 30 and Heath Road near Rainier, where a passenger sedan was on fire. According to information from CRFR, the driver left the scene prior to their arrival, but crews were able to extiguish the fire in the engine compartment in less than one minute. Clatskanie Fire Department, Rainier Police and Oregon Departement of Transportation assisted. Traffic was slowed in the area, but controlled by law enformcent. There were no injuries reported.
