Veterans Day events offered all weekend
This Veterans Day there are plenty of observances and ceremonies to honor those who served and continue to serve in the U.S. armed forces.
Here's a rundown of events happening in Columbia County.
ScappooseVeterans Day breakfast
Scappoose High School's leadership program will host a free Veterans Day breakfast for vets and their families Friday morning.

Veterans Day public service
Scappoose Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4362 will host its annual Veterans Day tribute at Veterans Park in Scappoose this year. The ceremony kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, and will feature a guest speaker

Columbia County Stand Down
The 4th annual Columbia County Stand Down will benefit agencies serving veterans and offer an onsite career fair. The event is sponsored by Community Action Team KOHI AM Radio, WorkSource Oregon and The Elks Veterans Bunker.

Veterans Day ceremony and memorial wall celebration
The St. Helens Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1440 will host a ceremony for veterans starting at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 10:45 to observe a moment of silence promptly at 11 a.m.
The observance will serve as a nod to a new memorial wall being constructed in McCormick Park in St. Helens (see story A12).

Elks Veterans Bunker community meal
The veterans bunker in St. Helens will offer a free community meal to all veterans and active duty military members Sunday afternoon. Food will be served at the St. Helens Elks Lodge starting at 1:30 p.m. and River City Singers will give a special performance featuring songs from the World War I era, on the 100th anniversary of the armistice. Food is free until it runs out and will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

When: 1:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11

Annual VFW fundraiser and potluck lunch
VFW Post 1909 will host a community potluck Saturday, Nov. 10 to honor veterans. The potluck will feature a silent auction with $1 paper tubes and $2 grab bags. Bring your favorite dish to share.
