Parent appointed to Scappoose School Board
The Scappoose School District board of directors voted this week to approve a Sauvie Island parent to fill a board vacancy created earlier this year by the unexpected resignation of Zone 2 member, Angela Schillereff.
Branda Jurasek was appointed by the majority of the school board Tuesday, Nov. 12, and will now serve as a provisional board member.
Jurasek was one of three people who applied for the position. The school board interviewed Jurasek and two other candidates, Erin Lee and Ellen Prouty, briefly during a session earlier this week.
Jurasek was sworn in at the board meeting after she was appointed and officially sat in for her first meeting Tuesday.
Schillereff, who resigned mid-October for health reasons, had months remaining to serve in her elected role. Jurasek will complete Schillereff's term, which ends in June. Provisional board members can run for election to a full term on the board after the provisional term expires.
Zone 2 of the school district includes parts of south Scappoose and Sauvie Island.
Jurasek previously served on the Sauvie Island School budget committee and has volunteered with the school's annual auction. She is also involved in Scappoose youth sports and has volunteered as a coach and assistant coach for Scappoose soccer, flag football and Kiwanis basketball programs.
