A man was struck and killed by a car Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24 while trying to pick up items from Highway 30 near Prescott.

James Gotcher, 73, of Rainier, was hit by a pickup truck heading west on Highway 30 while trying to retrieve items that fell out of a pickup truck he was a passenger in, according to an inital investigation by Oregon State Police.

Gotcher was riding in the truck, when he got out and tried to get unspecified items out of the roadway, OSP reported in a news release. He was hit by a truck driven by Joseph Salvey, 45, also of Rainier.

Gotcher died at the scene, according to police.
