Authorities said Ian R. Olson, an 18-year-old resident of St. Helens, died of "homicidal violence" inside a room at the Motel 6 located at 518 N.E. Holladay St. in Portland last Friday,

A housekeeper discovered the body in one of the rooms around 11:15 a.m. last Friday, Dec. 21, and Portland police officers and medical personnel confirmed the man was deceased, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau.

A day later, on Dec. 22, a member of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office determined Olson died of homicidal violence as a result of a gunshot injury.

The same day, the St. Helens School District released a statement indicating that Olson last attended school in the district in spring 2016.

"Today we learned the sad news that Ian Olson, a former student who last attended in the St. Helens School District during the Spring of 2016, was found deceased in a Portland area hotel. We do not have additional information to share about the circumstances surrounding his passing.

We extend our condolences to the Olson family and our thoughts and prayers are with them," Superintendent Scot Stockwell stated in the release.

Police say there is no suspect information to release at this time, and there "is not believed to be a danger to the community."
