Body of Rainier woman found on Neer City Road
The body of an 18-year-old woman was discovered on the side of the road outside of Rainier Wednesday afternoon.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office responded to Neer City Road on March 13 around noon after a passerby reported finding the body of a woman on the side of the country road.
The woman was identified Thursday as Sarah Elizabeth Zuber, 18, of Rainier.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused her death as her body bore no obvious physical injuries, noted a report by KOIN 6 News, a Pamplin Media Group news partner.
Authorities are considering all possibilities as a cause of death.
"From a traffic crash, up to she just stopped on the side of the road and had a heart attack — I mean, it could be anything between there," Columbia County Sheriff Brian Pixley told KOIN 6 News staff Wednesday.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene Wednesday, including CCSO, St. Helens Police Department, Scappoose Police Department and Oregon State Police. Those same agencies are continuing to investigate the case.
As the cause of death is unknown, the scene is being treated as a major crime scene, Pixley explained to KOIN 6 News.
"We treat it as a major crime scene until we can prove otherwise, that way we don't miss anything," Pixley said.
As of Thursday afternoon, the cause of death was still under investigation. Anyone with information about what led to Zuber's death is asked to contact CCSO at 503-397-1521 or the Columbia Enforcement Narcotics Team at 503-397-1167.
