St. Helens High School senior selected as the Elks Teen of the Month for April.

WetherbeeSt. Helens High School senior Hunter Wetherbee was selected as the Elks Teen of the Month for April.

Wetherbee was selected for the award based on his academic accomplishments and commitment to athletics.

Staff at the high school nominated Wetherbee based on his hardworking attitude and participation in class, describing him as someone who leads by example and cares about his school and other students.

"Hunter is a good student who works hard and does a very nice job of participating in class discussions as well as working with other students on projects," a press release from the high school stated. "Other students find Hunter to be someone who is kind and welcoming as well as someone you want in your group when you do group work because he expects everyone to participate and do their best."

Other students also spoke highly of Wetherbee, the press release noted. Classmates described him as kind, welcoming and someone who works well with others in group assignments.

Outside of school, Wetherbee is involved in athletics. For the past four years he played basketball and was twice selected as defensive player of the year. He also received the coach's award for his accomplishments. During his senior year of high school, Wetherbee also joined the golf team and competed as a varsity player.

When Wetherbee was notified that he was chosen as the Elks Teen of the Month, he was surprised but grateful for the recognition.

"I am very honored to be selected," Wetherbee stated in the release.

He also added that he's thankful to his parents who have always been in his corner and have supported him.

When he's not in school, Wetherbee enjoys basketball, golf, playing video games, going to the gym and working out.
