Delay announced today while contractor waits for parts of temporary traffic light

PMG PHOTO: ANNA DEL SAVIO - A temporary traffic light at Highway 30 and NW Newberry Road is being installed for the duration of the Cornelius Pass Road closure.

The Cornelius Pass closure is now expected to start late at night on Sunday, July 21. The closure won't begin until installation of the traffic signal at Highway 30 and Northwest Newberry Road is complete.

The contractor, Wildish Standard Paving, is still waiting to receive parts for the traffic signal. Once installed, the Oregon Department of Transportation will test the signal before approving operation, according to a project update from Multnomah County.

The delay is the latest in a string of date changes. Earlier this week, a closure date between July 17 and 19 was announced. A closure start of mid-July has been planned for months, but in mid-June, Multnomah County transportation department announced the closure would begin the week of July 8. The date was later pushed back until July 15, however.

The closure will last through September, with financial incentives for the contractor if they finish before September 21.

ODOT announced earlier this month that the department is delaying a closure of the Highway 30 to I-405 southbound ramp that was scheduled for July 19-29. Weekend and night closures will still happen on the ramp this summer.
