Oregon City man dies in fatal Highway 30 crash
UPDATED: One person died following a single-vehicle crash near Goble on Thursday, Aug. 8, which also injured four other people in the car.
Preliminary investigation information from law enforcement indicates Michael Scarlett, 65, of Oakland, California, was driving a silver Cadillac Escalade and traveling eastbound on Highway 30 when the vehicle left the roadway, went up an embankment, rotated and rolled several times before coming to rest on the passenger side.
Scarlett received minor injuries.
Barry Robinson Jr., 61, of Oregon City, was a passenger in the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
One passenger, identified as Zyrone Powell, 23, of Oregon City, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Two others, identified as Coleman Ewell, 28, of Pleasantville, New Jersey, and Clayton Ewell, 25, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, were treated for minor injuries.
Law enforcement was dispatched to the crash around 2:15 p.m.
Highway 30 was closed completely for two hours after the crash, with one lane of travel reopened for an additional hour Thursday afternoon, before crews were able to clear the scene.
Oregon State Police, Columbia River Fire and Rescue, Columbia City Police, and Oregon Department of Transportation all responded.
Officers State Police are also requesting information from anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the SUV driving between 11:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., the approximate time of the crash. The vehicle was traveleing eastbound from Astoria. Witnesses can contact the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center at *OSP (677) and reference Trooper Chris Cowen.
