Ships ahoy! SIS students launch their hand-crafted skiff
Seventh- and eighth-grade students from Sauvie Island School took their very own Beavin's Skiff model boat on its maiden voyage on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The students helped build the boat by hand from the bottom up through a partnership with the Wind & Oar Boat School, a Portland-based educational nonprofit, earlier this month. The students helped build and paint the boat before naming it "White Whale." They held a brief christening ceremony before launching it into Dairy Creek on Sauvie Island Wednesday afternoon.
