Amarah Comer named Elks Teen of the Month
St. Helens High School announced Wednesday, Feb. 5, that Amarah Comer has been selected as the Elks Teen of the Month for January.
Upon learning of her award, Comer said, "I'm very honored and grateful to be selected as the Elks Teen of the Month, I feel that all of my hard work has finally paid off!"
One of Comer's teachers, Mr. Brayton, said her work is consistently high quality and she's always willing to help other students.
"Amarah is an exceptional senior. Her reading and writing skills are some of the best I've seen in my time at St. Helens High School. She consistently submits quality work, not to mention is always willing to help others. She assisted foreign exchange students in my literature class with understanding assignments and content," Brayton said.
He continued, "Additionally, she runs many activities at the school through leadership. As a teacher assistant for my sophomore class, she is an excellent role model for the underclassmen. Amarah's kindness and helpfulness is admirable and genuine."
Science teacher Jared Phillips said Comer makes St. Helens High a better place.
"Amarah Comer is a hard-working, conscientious student that shows initiative, excellence, kindness, and enthusiasm everyday," Phillips remarked in a prepared statement. "She is a model citizen in the community and at St Helens High School. She is involved in the ASB Leadership program as the PBIS Coordinator, a member of the Lady Lions Golf team, works in Cub's Corner, and is actively involved in fundraising for charitable programs at the high school such as the Giving Tree and Think Pink Week."
"St Helens is a better place because of Amarah's dedication and commitment to
this community and we are proud to have Amarah as a Lion," Phillips' statement concluded.
Comer's future is still up in the air as she has not decided where she wants to go to college, the release notes. She would like to study to be either an elementary school teacher or a pediatrician, however.
Comer feels her best quality would be her passion.
"I'm very passionate and hardworking towards my dedications and believe it has shaped my personality and how I go about my responsibilities," she states.
Hobbies Comer enjoys are kayaking in seasonal weather and camping with family and friends.
