Rainier's Kyle Snook charged with murder, manslaughter, vehicular assault, DUII

Rainier resident Robert Betschart was killed in a hit and run accident in the early-morning hours of Saturday, July 25.

According to the Clatsop County Major Crimes Team, Betschart was at a large gathering at the Hunt Creek Rock pit east of Nicolai Road off Highway 30. Betschart was killed and three other people suffered serious injuries when a juvenile male — identified as Rainier's Kyle Snook — drove through the crowd to leave the site.

The Clatsop County Major Crimes Team has arrested Snook and charged him with murder in the second degree, manslaughter in the first degree, five counts of felony vehicular assault and DUII. Snook is currently lodged in the Cowlitz County Detention Facility pending arraignment.

The Clatsop County Major Crimes Team is asking for the public's help in investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Justin Dersham at 503-325-8635.

Police believe the gathering started in the evening hours of Friday, July 24, and continued tino the early morning hours of Saturday.
