Longtime Columbia County clerk dies
Elizabeth "Betty" Huser died Monday, April 26, after a long career in public service.
Huser was born in Wisconsin but later moved to Scappoose, where she graduated from Scappoose High School.
She served as mayor of Scappoose from 1979 to 1988. At various points throughout her long career, she served as president of the Oregon Mayors Association, Oregon Association of County Clerks, Columbia County League of Women Voters and Scappoose Kiwanis.
She worked as an insurance clerk for 25 years.
After finishing her second term as Scappoose mayor, former county clerk Reta Kerry asked Huser to take on the clerk position, according to a county spokesperson.
She stayed in that position for 32 years, up until her death.
Huser's cause of death was not immediately announced.
