The St. Helens Police Department is looking for witnesses to an alleged kidnapping attempt in the vicinity of Campbell Park on Wednesday morning, Sept. 1.

Police say they arrested a 24-year-old St. Helens man responding to a 10:22 a.m. report that members of the public had detained someone near Columbia River Highway and McBride Street, allegedly after the suspect attempted to abduct a child.

The man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Columbia County Jail. Police say additional charges related to the alleged kidnapping attempt may be filed.
