Port director resigns abruptly
The Port of Columbia County's executive director has resigned, the port announced Wednesday, Sept. 29.
Doug Hayes joined the port in 2017.
In a press release, the port announced that Hayes had tendered his resignation, but did not provide more information about why he left his role.
Port Commission Chair Nancy Ward declined to provide information about Hayes' resignation.
"Everyone has rights, and right to privacy is certainly part of any employment," Ward said.
The port board appointed the district's second-in-command, Sean Clark, to the role of interim executive director. Clark joined the port in 2014 and became deputy executive director in May, the port's press release stated.
The press release also stated that port commissioners "will determine a path to find its next executive director at the October port commission meeting," but Ward said she doubted any next steps would be determined at that meeting, which is scheduled for Oct. 13 at 8:30 a.m.
