Port commissioners terminated their legal agreement with Northwest Innovation Works.

PMG PHOTO: ANNA DEL SAVIO - Port of Columbia County commissioners attend a meeting in November 2021.Port of Columbia County commissioners unanimously agreed to terminate an option to lease agreement with Northwest Innovation Works last month.

The legal agreement had been in place since May 2019, giving NWIW first dibs on an industrial property owned by the port. But NWIW filed to dissolve its Oregon operations last fall, the Spotlight first reported in March. The company did not notify the port.

Earlier this year, the port sent a letter to NWIW to confirm the dissolution. According to port meeting minutes, NWIW, which is still registered as a business in Washington state, "replied to the letter, requesting termination of the option agreement."

NW Innovation Works had planned to build a methanol production facility at the Port Westward Industrial Park. The company had held an option to lease agreement for roughly 100 acres of port property since 2014.
