Events are scheduled through Oct. 30, including the Oct. 1 parade and the pumpkin lighting that follows.

COURTESY PHOTO: CITY OF ST. HELENS - The Big Halloween Parade on Oct. 1 is only one of the many fun activities during Spirit of Halloweentown in St. Helens. As Halloween approaches, the spooky finishing touches are in place for Spirit of Halloweentown activities in St. Helens.

The Spirit of Halloweentown gives the St. Helens Riverfront a haunted feel as events take place every Saturday and Sunday, wrapping up Oct. 30.

Visitors and residents alike can enjoy free activities each weekend, including strolling street performances, a costume contest at 1:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday, the Vendor Village, and a pirate encampment along the riverfront with cannon demonstrations.

Attractions that require tickets include a haunted house, celebrity meet and greets, a Sand Island adventure, an alien interview, and the Museum of Peculiarities and Oddities.

Get your calendars ready for the following events at the Spirit of Halloweentown.

• Actor Greg Ellis from "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Star Trek" is scheduled for ticketed appearances Sept. 24 and 25. There will also be a super pirate encampment along the riverfront.

• The always-enjoyable Big Halloween Parade takes place Oct. 1. The parade starts at 6 p.m. on Columbia Boulevard and Highway 30. The parade snakes down to South First Street and then along South First Street to the St. Helens riverfront property.

• The pumpkin lighting ceremony takes place right after the parade.

• Actors and actresses from Disney's "Halloweentown" will make appearances on Oct. 1 and 2.

• On Oct. 8, participants will campaign for your vote to be elected as the 2022 "mayor" of Halloweentown (not to be confused with the official vote for mayor of St. Helens, which is Nov. 8.)

• On Oct. 15, look forward to Olivia Taylor Dudley from "The Magicians," who will make ticketed celebrity appearances.

• From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22, there is the Haunted Hot Rods car show. The King and Queen of Halloween will oversee a children and family parade at the Courthouse Plaza at 2 p.m.

• Ashley Greene from "Twilight" is scheduled for ticketed appearances on Oct. 29.

• Peter Facinelli, also of "Twilight" fame, will be appearing Oct. 30.

Those visiting are asked to use the St. Helens riverfront property at the end of Plymouth Street for paid parking and to avoid parking in residential areas.

On Saturdays and Sundays throughout the event, the following streets will be closed: South First Street from St. Helens Street to Cowlitz Street, Strand Street from Cowlitz to Plaza Square, The Plaza Square itself and the parking lot behind South First Street.

Local businesses will still be open, during weekends, in the Riverfront District, but you're asked to check with individual businesses to see if they are adjusting their operating hours or services.

Parking and event ticket information can be found at the event website, spiritofhalloweentown.com.
