Brian Pixley leads the race for Columbia County sheriff in election night results.

Pixley, who is completing his first four-year term as sheriff, sought another four years but was challenged by St. Helens police officer Terry Massey.

Pixley is up with 58.2% of the vote to 41.4% for Massey, according to unofficial results.

More ballots are still being counted, so the county elections office plans to release updated results in the coming days and weeks before results are certified in early December.

Massey ran saying he would increase patrol coverage to 24 hours a day, which is something only St. Helens has in Columbia County.

Massey also said he would improve the relationship with St. Helens police department, led by Chief Brian Greenway — a relationship that Pixley has acknowledged as poor.
