The Sherwood Robin Hood Festival Association still hopes to hold the festival and tournament in July.

Traditionally, Sherwood's Maid Marian is coronated at the Madrigal Coronation Feast in April. That event has been canceled and ticket refunds are being issued, the Sherwood Robin Hood Festival Association announced.

Planning continues for the July events, including the festival and the International Archery Tournament on July 18 and July 19. However, the association says it is keeping in mind the evolving coronavirus situation.

"We are hopeful that this deadly virus will be behind us all and we can all come together and celebrate as a community in July," said Ron Groeger Jr., association president, in a statement. "We are still taking all sponsor and vendor applications for the festival, but if we should have to cancel the festival due to these trying times, we will send back all checks collected."

The association says it will have a final decision on whether the festival will go forward by the end of May.

Knighting nominations and scholarship application deadlines have been extended.

Every year, Sherwood honors notable community members at a knighting ceremony. This year's deadline is extended to May 31.

Graduating high school seniors planning to attend college or a vocational school can apply for the $500 James and Marie Ferry Memorial Scholarship. This year's application deadline is May 15.

Meanwhile, planning continues for the Robin Hood Festival.

The Maid Marian Court has already been chosen, and it is "creatively planning coronation and community service events that will comply with social distancing requirements," the association noted.

Sponsors and vendors are still being sought for the July programs. Sponsors contributing $300 or more will get a free booth.

However, the association's monthly meetings are canceled until further notice.
